Craftsmanship
I've been drawn to traditional French and British upholstery techniques for many years.
Upholstery is quite a small trade in Australia with fewer generational upholsterers and skilled craftsmen offering authentic period restoration. I'm mindful how important it is to protect the know-how required to rebuild a special piece of furniture from the ground up. All with a focus on each layer that comes before - to provide utimate comfort for its owner.
Through the uncompromising use of traditional materials and techniques, my aim is to pioneer a new-found love and appreciation for this vanishing craft.
At a time when the world is increasingly aware of the need for sustainability, the materials used in traditional upholstery lead the way.
Where possible, I favour natural fillings : horsehair, coir fibre, down and feather cushion inserts, cotton wadding, hessian, calico.
I am humbled to be using the most incredible specialty "tools of the trade" from all over the world. From an American hickory mallet, to Irish linen twine and English blued steel tacks. I believe the inside of your furniture should be just as considered as the fine fabric on the outside.
