Hi there, I’m Sophie

I came to upholstery after an enriching career in luxury fashion merchandising.

During this time in fashion I gained a clear understanding of the skill and attention-to-detail it takes to deliver quality products.

I have always had a deep respect for traditional crafts, valuing the immense know-how and expertise of the various French ateliers I worked alongside during my career in fashion; all the couturiers, embroiderers, milliners and button makers. Incredibly, many of these ateliers are centuries old and still using the same methods they always have - perfected over time.

When embarking on our own home renovations some years ago, it became evident to me the value I had always carried for great craftsmanship and refined details. We're lucky to live in a beautiful Victorian terrace house in Sydney's Paddington, where many of the original period details are still in tact.

Motivated to execute a sympathetic renovation, I began to seek out how I could work with the existing features of the home and recreate some of the genuine details throughout. It turns out it was a lot harder than I imagined. I found it increasingly difficult to find a tradesperson who could match authentic period details common throughout our terrace house, being told it wouldn't be easy to find someone who still had the skills to replicate those details any longer.

So, when it came to the softer elements of our home renovation, I decided I would take on the job. I set out to learn the somewhat lost art of traditional French and British upholstery methods, finding beauty in age-old techniques, hand-made elements, and the use of time-honoured tools of the trade.

I have an inherent understanding of the fabrics and details that are required to reintroduce an antique piece of furniture back into modern life.

With respect to its heritage, an uncompromised attention to detail, and quality finishes, it is possible to produce a piece capable of withstanding the test of time.
